The Commonlands FOV engine computes these angles for the IMX264 active area of 8.5mm by 7.1mm, and the IMX250 shares the same geometry. Run another sensor through the field of view calculator before you order.
Which Cameras Use the 2/3" Format
The Sony IMX264 and IMX250 are the 2/3" global shutter sensors camera makers have shipped most widely for 5MP work: 2448 by 2048 pixels at 3.45µm. Basler uses them in the ace acA2440-35um and acA2440-75um, IDS in the UI-3280CP and U3-3080CP, and The Imaging Source in the 33UX264.
Newer 5MP sensors with 2.74µm pixels, such as the 1/1.8" IMX547, IMX548, and IMX568, fit inside the same image circle with a narrower field of view. Commonlands rates the 25mm lens for 6 to 8MP at 2.74µm once it is stopped down to F/2.0 or F/2.8.
For the image-circle rules behind these pairings, read the Commonlands guides to sensor size and lens compatibility and image sensor selection for machine vision.
How to Choose a Focal Length for the IMX264
Take the longest focal length that still covers your field at the working distance, because narrower lenses usually hold distortion lower and put more pixels on the part. On the IMX264 the horizontal field runs from 97° with the 4mm lens down to 6° with the 75mm.
F/1.4 and F/1.5 maximum apertures on the 8mm through 35mm designs help global shutter cameras keep exposures short without extra gain. Stop down with the iris ring when depth of field matters more than light; the depth of field calculator shows the tradeoff.
Working Distance and Minimum Focus on 2/3" 5MP Lenses
Working distance varies by product, typically 100mm to infinity for Commonlands C-mount lenses, and each product page lists the minimum focus distance. The working distance guide explains how the internal cam refocuses these designs and why the minimum object distance is a hard stop.
The 35mm CIL526 lists a minimum working distance of 200mm. Designs as fast as F/1.5 and F/1.4 lose depth of field quickly wide open, so plan the aperture with the depth of field guide; the 75mm lens suits standoffs beyond a meter where a 2/3" camera must resolve small features.
What the 5MP Rating Means at 3.45µm
The 5MP label names the sensor class Commonlands designed and toleranced each lens for, not a measured resolving power. The 12mm CIL522 is the exception: Commonlands rates it for 2 to 3MP at 4.2µm wide open, with finer pitches once it is stopped down.
The CMR variants of the 25mm and 35mm lenses ship with a fixed aperture for vibration-prone stations, in stops from wide open to F/4.0, while the CMA versions keep the adjustable iris. Ask for the MTF curve at your aperture and field height before you commit.
