Choosing the right imaging lens starts with understanding your sensor format, required field of view, and working distance. This overview covers the fundamentals of M12 (S-mount) lenses and C-mount lenses — the two most common mount types in embedded machine vision — and how to match them to CMOS sensors from Sony, OmniVision, and OnSemi.
