Frequently asked questions

What sensors work with the CIL583 16mm C-mount lens?

The CIL583 fits sensors up to 1.2″ format and 25MP, including the Sony IMX541. Its 19.4mm image circle supports 2.74μm pixel pitch across that format.

How much distortion does the CIL583 have?

The CIL583 has -1.7% distortion from rectilinear. That level is low enough for dimensional measurement and many metrology setups without software correction.

Is the CIL583 aperture adjustable?

Yes. The CIL583 iris adjusts from F/2.4 to approximately F/16–18, so you can tune depth of field for your working distance.

What is the image circle of the CIL583?

The CIL583 produces a 19.4mm image circle, which covers 1.2″ sensors and gives a 62.5° field of view. You can calculate field coverage at field of view calculator

Does the CIL583 ship same day from the US?

Yes. Orders placed before 12 PM PST ship same day from Commonlands in San Diego, California.

What filter thread does the CIL583 use?

The CIL583 uses an M40.5x0.5 filter thread. Standard 40.5mm ND, polarizing, and bandpass filters fit that thread.

The CIL583 is a 16mm C-mount lens for 1.2" sensors up to 25MP at 2.74μm pixel pitch, including the Sony IMX541. It gives you a 62.5° field of view across a 19.4mm image circle, so the lens covers a broad working area without stepping down to a shorter focal length. The adjustable iris runs from F/2.4 wide open to approximately F/16–18, which lets you trade throughput for depth of field without changing lenses.

Distortion is -1.7% from rectilinear. That number is low enough for dimensional measurement and many metrology setups, especially if the system values field coverage along with accuracy. The minimum object distance is 125mm, so the lens can work fairly close for a large-format optic but still has room for broader inspection stations.

The lens uses all-glass optics and weighs 175g. That weight is higher than a small C-mount lens, but the trade buys you large-format coverage and a more stable mechanical package on fixed factory equipment. The M40.5x0.5 filter thread also lets you add standard 40.5mm ND or polarizing filters when glare from reflective parts becomes the real problem.

The standard C-mount 1"-32 TPI thread fits Basler ace2, FLIR Oryx, Allied Vision Alvium, Lucid Triton, and other industrial cameras with C-mount interfaces. You can use field of view calculator to confirm working area before you lock in the station design.

Commonlands ships in-stock parts same day from San Diego for orders before 12 PM PST. You can contact the optical engineering team if you need help comparing the CIL583 and CIL553 for a 25MP system.
