Frequently asked questions

What M12 lenses work with the CLA127 adapter?

M12 lenses with a mechanical back focal length (MBFL) greater than 4mm are the best candidates. Telephoto M12 focal lengths like 12mm, 18mm, 25mm, and 35mm typically work. Wide-angle M12 lenses with short MBFL values usually cannot reach focus.

Will the CLA127 adapter work with CS-mount cameras?

Yes. The CLA127 uses standard 1\"-32 TPI C-mount threading, which is compatible with both C-mount and CS-mount cameras. For CS-mount cameras you may need a 5mm spacer ring depending on your lens MBFL.

How thick is the CLA127 M12-to-C mount adapter?

The CLA127 has a 3.5mm profile thickness, keeping the overall adapter stack height minimal for tighter mechanical integration.

Can I remove the CLA127 adapter once installed?

Yes. The CLA127 can be unscrewed using a standard spanner wrench. No permanent modification to your camera or lens is required.

Does the CLA127 adapter ship same day?

Orders placed before 12 PM PST ship same day from San Diego. The CLA127 is stocked in quantity at our US warehouse.

What about vignetting when using M12 lenses on C-mount cameras?

Vignetting occurs when the M12 lens image circle is smaller than the C-mount camera sensor diagonal. Check your lens image circle specification against your sensor size. Read https://commonlands.com/pages/lens-mounts-101 for compatibility details.

The CLA127 is a 3.5mm thick M12-to-C mount adapter that lets you use M12 (S-mount) lenses on C-mount and CS-mount cameras. Thread your M12 lens into one side, screw the adapter into your camera body, and you have a working system. The adapter can be removed with a standard spanner wrench.

Compatibility is the critical question with any M12-to-C-mount conversion. The mechanical back focal length (MBFL) of your M12 lens determines whether this adapter will work. If your lens has an MBFL less than roughly 4mm, it physically cannot reach focus on most C-mount cameras because the sensor sits too far away. Telephoto M12 lenses (12mm+ focal length) with longer MBFL values are your best candidates. Read our guide at https://commonlands.com/pages/lens-mounts-101 for the full compatibility breakdown.

Machined aluminum construction, lightweight at under 10g. The 3.5mm profile keeps the overall stack height low. Standard M12x0.5 threading on the lens side, 1"-32 TPI C-mount threading on the camera side.

Even when the adapter mechanically fits, keep in mind that C-mount cameras have larger sensors than most M12 lenses were designed for. If the M12 lens image circle is smaller than your sensor diagonal, you will see vignetting at the corners. Match your lens image circle to your sensor size before ordering.

In stock and ships same day from San Diego for orders before 12 PM PST. Priced at $6.00 per unit with volume discounts starting at 50 pieces.
